Can't decide which edition of the XBOX 360 would be the best to buy?
Take a look at the following table, it should decide which edition best suits your needs:
The latest version of the XBOX 360 console is the Elite Edition which boasts a HDMI port, 120GB hard drive and a slick black and chrome finish, compared to the original white and chrome finish. The Elite Edition is aimed at replacing the Premium version as the top end package available to XBOX 360 gamers. The console however does not include any hardware upgrades, it is the same technology inside as the Arcade and Premium XBOX versions, just with extra toys! The console can stand upright or be placed on its side and it looks fantastic either way!
The XBOX 360 Elite comes as standard with a black wireless gamepad, compontent-video / composite-video AV cables, black wired headset (plugged into the gamepad), HDMI 2m cable, optical/component audio links and a standard RJ45(ethernet) networking cable. The Elite Edition produces Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound as standard but you can choose Dobly Stereo or Dolby Digital with WMA Pro.
The 120GB detachable hard drive allows gamers to save their games, download the latest television programmes and box office movies aswell as listen to music and browse their photo albums. The Elite Edition also includes one months free subscription to the XBOX Live GOLD Marketplace and LIVE Silver Membership. This allows you to play competitive online multiplayer games, chat to online friends, download the latest game demos, movie trailers, TV programmes and more!
The XBOX 360 Elite does not come with wireless networking built in, therefore you will need to locate a network to plug into or purchase a XBOX 360 Wireless adapter ( attaches to the back of the console ), this will set you back around £60. Another note is the gamepads require two AA batteries to operate, their are rechargeable accessories available at extra cost.
"Here's the question for current and prospective gamers: is the Elite worth the extra cash? For anyone who owns the existing Xbox 360, the answer is probably no -- the HDMI connector is more a convenience than a necessity, and the larger snap-on hard drive will be available to existing 360 users as an accessory."
"The lack of an integrated HD DVD drive could well be a missed opportunity though, especially considering that there are no plans for a black external HD DVD drive to match the Elite. That said, the sub £300 price point makes the Elite a very attractive prospect for anyone looking to move up to high definition gaming, while the very strong catalogue of titles keeps Microsoft well ahead of Sony in the next gen console race."
"If you're a keen gamer and want to play good games in glorious high definition, right now, the minute you've got your brand new console set up, then you want an Xbox 360 Elite."
