Back in September 2021 we reviewed the Venom LED console stand for Xbox Series X and for the most part liked the accessory as a way to spruce up your setup. We have now received the PS5 equivalent and have had a chance to test it out. The Venom Colour Change LED Stand for Playstation 5 hit shelves on the 8th of April 2022 and is now readily available from several retailers.
The general opinion on the aesthetics of the PS5 has most certainly been varied. It’s a rather beastly machine but now thanks to Sony’s console covers and now the LED PS5 stand from Venom it’s nice to have some ways to adapt it to match your own stylistic preferences. When testing with the standard PS5 the console sits very snug inside the stand and feels very secure. It’s also incredibly easy to set up with no screws required. Simply plug the 20cm USB cable into your console and hit the on button. The LED lights go down both sides of the console and provide a decent amount of illumination going up around a quarter of the console. Keep in mind the console must be kept upright to use this stand so if you're set up requires your PS5 to lay on its side this stand is probably not a good option
When it comes to controlling the Venom Colour Change PS5 LED stand you have 3 buttons built-in. These include an on/off button, colour setting button and brightness button. For the colour settings, there are 8 different settings: blue, white, green, purple, pink, red, orange and a multi-colour cycle. The ability to alter the brightness of the LEDs is a nice touch as well for when you want to tone down those LED lights. Definitely plenty of customisation options here which are appreciated.
One of my biggest gripes with the Venom colour change PS5 LED stand is the fact that it takes up a USB slot on your console whilst providing no replacement/additional USBs. The Xbox Series X equivalent stand actually led to you gaining a port. However here the opposite is true so you’re effectively losing a USB port in order to use this stand with your PS5. This seems like a rather large regression from the Xbox stand in my opinion.
In conclusion, this is a decent accessory that’s relatively well put together but also quite niche. If you want to add that extra bit of excitement to your setup then this might be a good purchase for you at the £24.99 RRP. However, the loss of the USB slot on your console is hard to overlook and should definitely be considered if you’re going to be picking this stand up for your PlayStation 5 console.
