Last week I was here writing about the possibilities of the Playstation 4 coming out in 2012 that has inevitably sparked a rumour that the new Xbox 360 codenamed Xbox 720 may well be on its way too! Considering Nintendo and Sony took E3 by storm this year each showing off a new console, the PS Vita and the Nintendo WiiU. Microsoft seemed only to offer a number of upcoming titles for the Xbox Kinect and a few Xbox only games.

Already in Development

A series of job listings that was spotted by Beyond3D which included three posts as Senior Architect and Performance Engineer for the Xbox Console Archtecture Group, a Senior Hardware Design Verification Engineer and a Graphics Hardware Architect quoted “Responsible for defining and delivering next-generation console architectures from conception through implementation.” The Xbox 360 has been around since its launch in 2005 which came out 4 years after the launch of the original Xbox in 2002. So it sounds promising that a new Xbox could indeed be on its way next year.

Crytek have also announced that they are developing a new Time Splitters game and that the announcement of the Xbox 720 will most likely be within 12 months, hinting on a 2012 E3 Roll out.

What can we expect from a 720?

We can expect a massive boost in power and hardware technology from the 360 that is a guarantee and according to the legendary John Carmack, who told Eurogamer that the next generation of consoles will be 10x as powerful! There is alot of talking about the new console using IBM processors and AMD GPU’s based on rumours from E3 2011.

Here is some concepts of what the console may look like

Playstation Network on the Brink of Restoration

Its been almost a month since Hackers caused the complete shut down of the PlayStation Network and numerous problems for Sony. On the 15th of May Sony started back up several features on the Playstation Network throughout Europe and North America.
All it takes is a small 25mb update, then a new password for your PSN account. Services that are currently online include Online gaming, Playstation Home, BBC Iplayer, Lovefilm, Netflix, Qricoty and other subscription services.

Sony have also promised a “Welcome Back” package for playstation network customers from before 20th of April including 2 choices of these selected games:

LittleBigPlanet

InFamous

Wipeout

Ratchet & Clank:Quest For Booty

Dead Nation

Also 30 Days Free access to PlayStation Plus and for anybody already subscribed to PlayStation plus subscribers will receive 60 days free of charge. Be Sure to check the Sony for a full list and how to get these goodies when the PlayStation Store comes back online
In Japan however the playstation network is still to go back online as the Government are blocking a relaunch until sony satisfies regulators that it has improved its security controls.
A fairly Generous offering? Well, free stuff is always great but an aged selection of games as compensation for millions of credit card details stolen? Some PlayStation Customers are calling this an insult. Here at Whichconsole.co.uk we’re just glad the PlayStation network is back online so we can get back to some hardcore gaming!

The ever busy folk over at Nintendo have announced that they are in the early stages of development of yet another new model in their long line of handheld consoles.

The new console is to feature a 3D display without the need for 3D glasses or similar, this will be good news for those of you who yearn to experience three dimensional game-play but are hesitant to be seen sporting the somewhat unfashionable specs in public.

Whilst there is no official title for their latest toy as yet, Nintendo are calling it the “Nintendo 3DS” and stated that it will be backwards compatible with all previous DS games, so you need not worry about having to replace all your current favourite Pokemon and Super Mario titles.

It has been half a decade since the release of the original Nintendo DS, in which time we have been blessed with a multitude of new and improved versions of it, the lite, the DSI and the more recent DS XL. While each new incarnation of the console has offered new features and hardware, the 3DS promises to be the most significant forward step that the DS has seen.

“We wanted to give the gaming industry a head’s up about what to expect from Nintendo at E3,” Ken Toyoda, chief spokesman at Nintendo told the New York Times. “We’ll invite people to play with the new device then.”

Many in the industry are keen to hear just what technology Nintendo are implementing in order to steal a march on their rivals, and be the first company to release a fully functional portable console with an integrated 3D display. Unconfirmed rumours from Japan suggest that the 3DS will also feature “3D joysticks” as well as force feedback and much improved wireless support.

We are certainly already eagerly anticipating the release of the 3DS, and look forward to seeing Mario jump right out of our screens and into our living rooms.

Be sure to keep an eye on whichconsole.co.uk for more news on the 3DS as and when it becomes available, and as always we guarantee to find you the very best deals for it upon its eventual release.
