Nintendo Wii 2 Coming 2012

nintedo wii 2
Nintendo has announced its plan to launch a brand new Wii although not before April 2012 says Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata. Codenamed Project Cafe and planned to be unveiled in a playable form at this year’s E3 in LA this June. Nintendo is always keen to provide gamers with innovative technology to engage gamers and the original Wii is a fine example. There has been no official release of specs yet but some exciting rumours and speculation of what the Wii Successor may include such as:

Visuals more powerful than Xbox 360 and PS3?
Hardware more powerful than that of the xbox 360 and PS3 Could mean stunning HD visuals, Blu-ray capabilities and a build in projection unit that means the console will not require a tv to play just a white wall perhaps.

Motion Controller with touch screen?
According to a number of sources the new controllers will feature a six-inch touch screen display potentially capable of 720p HD visuals, also to have 8 buttons, twin analogue sticks and a camera. Sounds expensive and estimated to market at $80 or above each!

Backwards Compatability
The console is very likely to be backwards-compatible enabling the current Wii and its motion-sensing peripherals to be used and to continue competing with Xbox Kinect and PlayStation Move. A very appealing next generation console but remember these are only rumours.

Here at whichconsole.co.uk we are very excited to see the console in action at E3 and will be prepared on release to bring you the best deals.

Playstation Move Review

November 16th 2010 by Steve

Although the Nintendo Wii has four years  on the Playstation Move in terms of technology, it’s still a major leap forward into the advancement of motion sensitive technology. With its new set of peripherals ,coupled with a surprisingly precise controls and current generation graphics, the Playstation 3 really does show the Nintendo Wii fans what they’re missing out on.

Sony’s combination of wireless controllers coupled with a video camera allows for near 1:1 movement within a 3D space, far superior technology to that of the Nintendo Wii. Whilst using a Move controller, your on screen wand, tennis racquet  or sword,  will precisely match your every move with near zero lag.

However, although the Playstation Move may carry the concept of motion gaming into a more adult context, the peripherals themselves aren’t exactly cutting edge. With the controllers looking more like a toy ice cream cone, although comfortable to grip, the glowing orb at the top is sure to have the neighbours wondering what on earth you’re getting up to in your front room.  When holding the controller your index finger curls around a trigger – used in a multitude of games for simulating the picking up of a specific object – with your thumbs resting  on a ring of buttons that control extra commands. The layout does take a little getting used to but shouldn’t take you any longer to figure out that when you first picked up a PS3 controller.

Although Sony have mastered the feeling of motion control, if the camera ever loses sight of the individual the continuity of the game play is compromised, losing the illusion for the player. This won’t be such a problem for most, since games don’t  include any behind the back tricks, but small living rooms may restrict the Move. Sony recommends that the player stand at least eight feet away from the camera, any closer and you’ll quickly drop out of frame.

Sales within the video-game industry are expected to rise significantly in the final quarter of 2010, when both Microsoft and Sony are expected to release motion-sensing add-on products to their respective consoles.

Microsoft’s Kinect, which is scheduled for release in early November in the US, is the more highly-anticipated of the two devices. It contains a camera and both audio motion-sensing technology to track movement from the human body. Both the  Wii and upcoming PS3 systems require users to hold a device for the respective systems to read.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 topped console sales in July for the first time in nearly three years, as the video-game industry as a whole saw sales slip 1%, a market research firm said.

Microsoft’s introduction of a thinner Xbox 360 drove sales to 443,500 units in July, easily accounting for the Nintendo Wii and, also, Sony’s PlayStation 3, The NPD Group said in releasing its monthly report late Thursday. The last time the Xbox 360 held the top slot was in late 2007, when sales were driven by the launch of “Halo 3,”.

Sales of video-game hardware as a whole, which includes the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS portable, rose 12% from the same month a year ago. Besides the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 also saw a “significant” increase in sales compared to 12 months previous.

Industry sales, including hardware, software and accessories, dipped 1% from a year. Not included in the industry number are PC games, which saw a 103% increase in dollars from a year ago, mainly due to the success of a single game, “Starcraft II.”

Earlier in the year, Blizzard Entertainment released the game and sold 721,000 units of “Starcraft II”  in the month.
