Nintendo 3DS Circle Pad Pro

December 15th 2011 by tom

After a disappointing release of the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo have being doing all they can to put the 3DS back on track, with a reduced price and an improved software line up the 3DS sales are generally increasing. With the release of the PS Vita around the corner Nintendo will still be fighting hard to top the handheld sales charts. There latest innovation is the brilliant Circle Pad Pro. To combat the Vita’s dual analog system the circle pad pro is a inexpensive add-on for the 3DS costing around £20 it clips on to the back of the 3DS providing a right hand analog stick and 2 extra shoulder buttons.

Comfortable but Ugly

Yes its not the best looking add on but theverge.com Got a hands on preview of the circle pad and stated that it was extremely comfortable, the extra width and depth makes it much easier to hold like a more traditional game pad.

The additional analog sit at the same height as the original and feels natural and comfortable. The addition of two shoulder buttons is a great feature too: ZR and ZL buttons that give you four shoulder buttons all together.

The Circle Pad Pro connect to the 3DS by infra-red ports on both systems and fitting the system in is just a matter of squeezing in the console between some rubber grips. All controls are still accessible and lights visible apart from the game card slot and stylus which are covered by the case.

Power Up!

Unfortunately the circle pad pro is powered by a battery, but according to the manual one AAA battery will last for around 480 hours! Much better than charging it every 6 hours surely?! It is unfortunate that Nintendo didn’t take this opportunity to boost the power of the 3DS console itself as it has been an issue for many users. Set up of the CPP is done on a game to game bases, when loading each game you will be asked if you wish to use the CPP as long as the game supports it.

If you haven’t got your 3DS yet then there are still some great Christmas bundles out there so check our 3DS deals page.

Nintendo’s latest console the 3DS has had a massive 40% price drop last week, just what the 3DS needed after the sales targets on release was not met. Although no uk sales numbers have been released yet, in Japan it has boosted sales up by 10,000 units within a week, the second best week of sales since launch. Nintendo has just announced a new red model of the 3DS to be released in September as well as a number of great games to be released just in time for the Christmas rush, including star fox, super Mario World, Lugi’s mansion and many others.

Nintendo Conference

Nintendo has announced they will be holding a conference on the 13th of September focusing entirely on the 3DS. A marketing ploy for the upcoming holiday season to show off titles and software updates. 01net has sparked some interesting rumours, that the lack of a second thumbstick has ment that nintendo will be releasing a thumbstick add-on that will cost approximately $10. another rumours is that Nintendo will be releasing a new version of the 3DS hardware for release in 2012 and is the reason for the price cut, to liquidate the current stock so the “successor” will replace the current 3DS. These sources however may not be reliable and we will have to wait until the 13th of September to find out.

With Christmas just around the corner it’s no surprise that Nintendo have released a sneak preview of their new title lists for both the Wii and the DS, with some coming to our stores very soon.

With the Playstation Move and Xbox 360 Kinect set to give the Wii a run for its money this Christmas, it worth remembering that Nintendo were first to launch this kind of technology, and with an impressive list of new and improved games set to hit the shops soon, the sales should speak for themselves.

Nintendo is set to release a good mix of old favourites and new titles in time for the festive season. The much anticipated arrival of Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii is due to hit the shelves on December  1st.  Nintendo DS will also be rolling out some must have titles including Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Souls and Professor Layton and the Lost Future. Both are set for release in November and October 22nd respectively.

These are just a few examples of the entire Nintendo games list. This is set for release soon so keep your eyes peeled!

Nintendo Logo

The ever busy folk over at Nintendo have announced that they are in the early stages of development of yet another new model in their long line of handheld consoles.

The new console is to feature a 3D display without the need for 3D glasses or similar, this will be good news for those of you who yearn to experience three dimensional game-play but are hesitant to be seen sporting the somewhat unfashionable specs in public.

Whilst there is no official title for their latest toy as yet, Nintendo are calling it the “Nintendo 3DS” and stated that it will be backwards compatible with all previous DS games, so you need not worry about having to replace all your current favourite Pokemon and Super Mario titles.

It has been half a decade since the release of the original Nintendo DS, in which time we have been blessed with a multitude of new and improved versions of it, the lite, the DSI and the more recent DS XL. While each new incarnation of the console has offered new features and hardware, the 3DS promises to be the most significant forward step that the DS has seen.

“We wanted to give the gaming industry a head’s up about what to expect from Nintendo at E3,” Ken Toyoda, chief spokesman at Nintendo told the New York Times. “We’ll invite people to play with the new device then.”

Many in the industry are keen to hear just what technology Nintendo are implementing in order to steal a march on their rivals, and be the first company to release a fully functional portable console with an integrated 3D display. Unconfirmed rumours from Japan suggest that the 3DS will also feature “3D joysticks” as well as force feedback and much improved wireless support.

We are certainly already eagerly anticipating the release of the 3DS, and look forward to seeing Mario jump right out of our screens and into our living rooms.

Be sure to keep an eye on whichconsole.co.uk for more news on the 3DS as and when it becomes available, and as always we guarantee to find you the very best deals for it upon its eventual release.
